Why Is Water Removal Important For The Home?

Water removal is a long process especially if your home becomes flooded during a typhoon. But it is of utmost important once the floodwaters have receded or once you are able to quickly pump out the accumulated water. Of course you do this because you want your home to become livable again. But essentially, you undergo the water removal process to make sure that water-borne risks are eliminated. The health of your household is the priority.

What are these water-borne risks? These risks are due to the delay of water removal which can become the source of growth of microbes such as bacteria, virus, and mold. People with lung disease can be further aggravated with such conditions and those that do not have lung problems can develop lung disease.

In order that this will not happen, areas with long standing water should undergo water removal. This includes the floor, especially the basement where flooding may have occurred, the ceiling when sloped can collect water, and faulty drainage areas. Water removal from ceilings can be done by puncturing small holes so that water can be drained. Remember to collect the water by placing buckets beneath the punctures and discarding appropriately. For the drainage areas which may have been blocked by garbage or collected soil, shovel the excess dirt or remove whatever is blocking them. Drainage pipes may be blocked as well so better check on this too.

In the garden, pots and other gardening materials may collect water too from the rain. These are ideal spots for microorganisms to grow and attract mosquitoes that may carry dengue. Apart from water removal from such possible water receptacles, better to keep these in proper storage areas where water or moisture will not be collected. Better yet, throw away broken pots.

On a regular basis, inspect your home, especially after a typhoon or rain. Check out the susceptible places where moisture or water may remain stagnant. You can be alerted if microorganisms are growing in your home from a possible allergy reaction of one your household members. Mold may appear as discoloration on wet surfaces which is usually found in the kitchen and bathroom. Other times, mold looks like a fuzzy growth. Other places that need checking are your pipes, drainage system, garden, and basement.

Water-borne risks may be prevented by proper water removal. Find the source first to completely eradicate this problem. If proven to be difficult, seek the help of professionals.
