There is this notion out there that pick up lines done work, but they do as long as you use them right. What doesn’t work are the cheesy lines that just make you look like an idiot! The idea of a pick up line is to get someone to notice you or just to break the ice.

It can be hard to just walk up to someone and say, “Hi I’m insert your name here and I think you are attractive and would like to get to know you better. In fact, this may outright scare some people. Pick up lines don’t have to be obvious, they can just be a tool that will help you get the conversation flowing.

Some great pick up lines that work just about anywhere, on both men and women, include but are not limited.

I really like your name. Do you know the meaning of it? This is a great way to compliment someone on something they don’t hear all the time. If the person has a nice smile or beautiful eyes they hear that all the time and pretty much tune the complimenting person off as soon as they open their mouth. Compliment them on their name as this will get their attention and hopefully get them talking to you!

Where did you go to school? Of course, you only want to ask this if you know that they went to school. This question allows for them to open up and talk to you about a subject they are comfortable with and it will give you more information about them so you can ask them more questions, and hopefully enjoy a great conversation that ends in you trading numbers due to mutual interest.

What would you order? If you are at a bar or a restaurant a great way to break the ice and pick someone up is to ask them what they would order if they were you, or ask them to suggest a dish or a drink. Again, this will get them to open up and notice you if they hadn’t already and it will also allow you to ask more questions and just get the conversation going.

Have we met? This may be one of the cliche lines, but you can use it and it will work. Tell them that they look familiar and that you think you met them at so and so’s party. This will get them thinking and they may share just enough information in return that you can get a conversation going. If nothing else, you have let them know that you are interested. Just putting that out there is often enough to get a favorable response.

What are you drinking? This question will allow you to get your foot in the door and make your presence known. You may also find a new drink that you know at least one other, highly attractive person likes!

As you can see, pick up lines don’t have to be cheesy and they don’t have to make you feel like an idiot or make the person you are interested in squirm. Just use these at the right time and in the right place, otherwise it looks like you don’t know what you’re doing.
