Online casinos of all stripes have been involved in the bonus industry for some time now. It is perhaps not that surprising that this would be the case since bonuses and other promotions tend to be very successful in getting new players to websites, but in the beginning the bonuses were actually quite a bit better than they are right now. The online casinos of the world were still new to the game and because of that they needed to get as many players as possible playing at their software packages. To this end, the bonuses they offered were usually very generous 100% to 200% bonuses that were up to $200 or more in some cases.
However, where things were really different was in the actual bonus release requirements, many of which were quite a bit smaller than they are today. In some cases, you could actually wager a single digit multiple of just the bonus amount and still get permission to clear the bonus. This is something that would never happen today and it is for that reason that you will hear many online casino veteran players complain that bonuses now are not as good as they used to be.
Of course, bonus collecting players do bear the brunt of the responsibility for the changes that came about in the online casino promotional industries. When it became obvious to casinos through viewing the betting habits of their players that there were people taking advantage of the statistics of a bonus situation to basically guarantee themselves a profit through the situation, online casinos realized that they could start losing money from these bonuses and for that reason started to take steps to ensure that they would not lose any money no matter what happened. The problem was not the bonus amounts, but rather the bonus amounts in relation to the release requirements of the bonus.
As a remedy for this problem, most of the casinos started raising their release requirements. The first major move was from an industry average of 10 times the amount of the bonus to 20 times the amount of the bonus and the initial deposit combined. Nowadays, that amount has been raised to 30 or even 40 times the amount of the bonus and the initial deposit combined, making it practically impossible for the online casino to lose money, but also making it very hard for people to clear the bonus. The latest introduction on the part of the casinos is the sticky bonus which essentially cannot be withdrawn no matter what. It is a bonus that you can wager in the hopes of gaining more money, but it is not a true bonus in any real sense of the term.
