The city is not the place to take care of native wildlife. The natural habitats of these creatures have been occupied by people. Though this might be the case there should be no despair but to take action would be better. Creating a natural urban landscape for the native wildlife species where they could live.

Prepare things that you will need like birdhouses, squirrel feeders, bird feeders, bird seed and berry bushes. The feathered native wildlife can be cared for easily in the city. The yard should be planted with trees, this is going to be the place that you can feed and house the birds. They also like berry bushes because the birds are attracted to it.

The bat houses can be placed near your garage’s edge or even in the highest part of the tree. Bats feed on bugs and so you will rid yourself of those pesky bugs during summer. Let the bats stay for as long as they want. If you can find squirrels, you can also care for them. You will need squirrel feeders on the fence. You will surely enjoy watching the small animals scurrying along the yard and the trees.

If you have a pet dog, it would be best to put a leash on him. Feed the dog outside and make sure that the dish is always filled. It is not good to allow domesticated animals and native wildlife to mingle with one another. You can even put owls and diurnal raptors in your small wildlife in the city. Put a platform in the yard where you can put dead mice. At daytime, the raptors will devour it and at night, the owls will also do the same.

Keep in your mind that you need to secure the necessary permit before you can care for native animals. It is illegal to pick up stray native wildlife and take them straight home. Notify the appropriate authorities and apply for a permit. Once you are issued a permit, you can already care for the native wildlife.

Some people with larger yard spaces have installed fishponds. You could put feeder fish in the pond. If you do have a raccoon, they will be feeding on the fish. The mosquitoes will then grow their larvae on the pond and this is going to serve as food for your bats. Remember to secure the necessary permits. Oftentimes, native wildlife should be returned to the wild after some time.

Well, if you must release the animals, you could get a new one. It is a good thing there are still people out there who care for native wildlife. Even if you are in the city, you can start caring for native wildlife if you are really determined to do so.
