We all know and love Mario, but how did he actually start out? What do you know about his personality, his work, his relationships and love interest? We give you some information in here.

For the facts, Mario started out as a 2D image and graduated to a polygon model in three dimensional medium. A short, 155cm tall, portly plumber, Mario resides in the Mushroom Kingdom along with his younger brother, Luigi. Italian by origin, Mario centers his efforts revolve around protection and welfare of the people of Mushroom Kingdom.

Mario has not changed much in physical appearance with which he started out. In most games, he is attired in red, wears a cap with an M embossed on it and white glows. He is a short man with a stubby frame and a large protruding nose along with a moustache. His attire has changed sometimes over various games and even today, his clothes are varied according to the game. Like in the Super Mario Strikes game, he wears a football kit to suit the game while in Super Mario Sunshine, he wears a red t-shirt and can wear sunglasses and Hawaiian style clothes too. Moreover, in some games he is given a wide variety of clothing upon transformation into various forms.

For his cute personality, we can say that in most games he is shown to be kind, brave hearted hero who cannot see his people in pain. With an undying love for pasta and pizza, his Italian roots are portrayed by his way of speaking and his occasional Italian chant. A spring in the step, an enthusiastic high pitch voice, and the knack of tackling dangers are some phrases which can sum up our favorite hero.

Mario’s speech consists of short phrases like “Okey dokey!”, “Woo-Hoo!”, “Lets a-go!” etc but in Mario sports games, he has been programmed to have complete speech capabilities. Apart from the above, Mario is not known to deliver many dialogues and in most of his games you would find the characters doing the talking.

As for his occupation, Mario is shown to be an Italian plumber. He is never involved in any occupational work in games, except for games like Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and Mario Bros 1. But plumbing tools and pipes have always been a mode of transportation in Mario games. He is shown plumbing and playing around with the tools in many of his animated series. An interesting fact comes around here that in the original Donkey Kong, Mario was a carpenter by occupation. Over the years and various game titles, Mario has also explored occupations like a doctor, archaeologist and a businessman. And each installment has added to his popularity, no doubt about that.

Mario is an intriguing character and you can never have enough of him. What better way to know him than playing the numerous games that he has to his credit. Just don’t forget to introduce your children to the most popular game character in the history.
