Perhaps you have broken up with your ex and you are feeling extremely upset about it. You still want to win back and your and most probably, the first thing you want to do now is to contact him/her immediately.

This is usually not the first step you should take. In fact, it is best that you do not try to contact your ex just after a break up.

Why is that so? Why shouldn’t you contact your ex just after a break up?

Well, contacting your ex just after a break up can make you prone to making mistakes. The fact is that, now that you have just gone through a break up, you are probably not in a very good emotional state now.

You will probably get very emotional once you see your ex or hear his/her voice. In this kind of state, it is really hard not to make mistakes. It is very likely that you may do or say the wrong things.

This can make your situation worse and makes it even harder to win back your ex. You do not want to commit any mistakes that will worsen your situation.

Therefore, the first step you should take is to heal your emotion. During this period, if possible, try not to meet up with or call your ex. I am assuming that both of you are not colleagues or classmates, so it is possible to do so.

During this period, you want to try to get your ex out of your mind. So, if there are any things that will trigger you to think of your ex, remove them. For example, photographs of both of you together, presents your ex gave you etc.

Don’t worry, there is no need to get rd of them forever. You do not need to throw them away. Just keep them out of sight, probably in one corner of your cupboard. You can always take them out once you win back your ex.

It is usually a good idea to avoid seeing your ex for around one month. Take this opportunity to heal your emotional state. When you are in a better emotional state, you will be able to think more clearly and make a better decision.

Who knows, during this period, you might decide to let go of your relationship and move on. However, if you still want to win back your ex, you will still be in a much better position to do so now that you are more stable emotionally.

With that said, note that winning back your ex may take some time and you should not try to rush things or it may make the situation worse.
