Have You Ever Seen The Play Othello?

Othello could be described as the self-conceited hero, is a Moor in this tale, traditionally interpreted to mean a black man, who ultimately wins the bosom of Desdemona with his sportive tales of adventure and struggle, which is must to the disagreement of her father and also the Venetian Judicature of which they are they are all apart of.

Othello is portrayed as a military man, who finds himself ill at ease with the world populace and circumstances. The plot to the tale begins to speed up fairly rapidly when Iago, a subordinate of Othello, vows to seek revenge for being passed over for a promotion that he felt he deserved.

In the tale of Othello, the mentally deranged Iago poisons the heart of Othello with lies about his beautiful wise Desdemona. The Moor (black man) is driven into a fit of rage as a result of Iago’s tales of unfaithfulness and kills her as a result of it. After it is too late, he learns of her faithfulness and purity, and like Lear, he dies tragically.

To condense Othello into a reasonable, two-hour running time, writer/director Oliver Parker has lopped approximately 50% of Shakespeare’s original text from the screenplay. Yet, even with so much gone, the picture remains faithful to the play’s central themes and conflicts, and the streamlined story is astonishingly at ease to follow (well, as “easy” as anything scripted by William Shakespeare can be). For sheer impact, this Othello can stand side-by-side with the versions brought to the screen by Orson Welles (as restored in 1992) and Lawrence Olivier.

If we take a look at two very prominent characters, in this example it will be Othello from the Shakespearean play Othello and Doctor Stockman from the Ibsen’s Enemy of the people, you can quite clearly see the differing combination of characteristics, actions and beliefs that ultimately to a character fulfilling the necessary requirements to be a tragic here or maybe just falling short of that goal.

Many of the characters in the tale are fairly easy to analyse, although there are those that are pretty complex at first glance, but once you become aware of their main motivations, it becomes ever so clear to you. One of such characters is Othello from the Shakespearean play Othello, a play about a man who is at arms with his self and his own social interpretations of who he truly is. This article had hoped to look further into the person who is Othello and bring out the vital obstacles and objectives that make him the man that he is.
